Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at Integrated College Glengormley

At Integrated College Glengormley, we foster a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment for all our pupils. We are relentless in celebrating, supporting, and encouraging each of our pupils in their learning. Positive relationships between pupils and staff are paramount, and we are committed to strengthening these relationships to ensure every pupil feels respected and valued.

Each pupil is led by a caring Form Tutor who meets them every morning and afternoon during registration. The Form Tutor is responsible for the pupil’s pastoral needs, including attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and academic progress. They are also the first point of contact between home and school. We actively encourage parents and carers to contact their child’s Form Tutor with any queries or concerns.

Pastoral care within each year group is led by two Heads of Year and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. This team supports the work of the Form Tutor and ensures a consistent and caring approach across the school.

We take a holistic approach to pastoral care, with a dedicated programme designed to develop the whole child. This includes:

  • Weekly assemblies
  • Fortnightly pastoral periods led by Form Tutors
  • Workshops facilitated by the pastoral team and external agencies
  • A structured curriculum in Personal Development, Citizenship, and Employability

All our staff are trained in Trauma-Informed and Restorative Practices, which underpin our approach to behaviour management.

Integrated College Glengormley is proud to be recognised as a Pivotal Behaviour School, awarded for our positive approaches to managing behaviour. Our school rules are simple and known as the ICG Way:

  • Be Ready
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Safe

We place a high value on promoting and rewarding positive behaviour. As part of our Positive Friday initiative, we dedicate staff development time each week to celebrate pupil achievements through:

  • Positive phone calls
  • Texts, emails, and letters home
  • Postcards and positive notes
  • Logging positive behaviour points
  • Organising class and individual rewards

We are not just a school — we are a family. We take pride in each and every one of our students and are committed to ensuring they feel supported, encouraged, and celebrated every step of the way.
